Is Our Food Poisoning Us?
I love to read. Some of my favorite things to read are packages, boxes,
cans, and bottles. I don't just read the front where all the big words are.
I enjoy reading the fine print where all the real information is.
I've heard that food in cans is just as healthy as fresh food, but that's a
lie. I bought a can of pork and beans, and a can of diced tomatoes that
both bragged about their NON BPA LINERS. The tomatoes can, even
had the nerve to mention it is NON GMO Project VERIFIED, and
how it's 100% natural. Both cans failed to mention that they contained
calcium chloride.
According to Google, calcium chloride is a white crystalline salt used to
de-ice roads and as a drying agent. On msdsonline.com, the website says
calcium chloride poses some serious health and safety hazards.
Why is this chemical being allowed in our food? So what do you
think? Is our food poisoning us?

Refrigerate After Opening
I'd been using this syrup for about a month when I decided to read
the back: Refrigerate after opening. I thought to myself...What?
This isn't maple syrup, which does have to be refrigerated. I was
using cheap store brand pancake syrup. Pancake syrup is supposed
to be able to be stored at room temperature. I researched pancake
syrup a little, and I read nowhere that you should refrigerate it.
So why does Kroger brand pancake syrup require refrigeration? I
called the 1-800 number to find out. The lady on the phone wanted
to know the product's barcode and then she confirmed the item I
had. I asked her why the syrup had to be refrigerated and she said,
"It's fine in the pantry, but it's recommended to be refrigerated for
better quality and flavor." Her answer still doesn't make much sense
to me. Either it should be refrigerated or it shouldn't. Maybe Kroger
should borrow the sentence from the back of Heinz Tomato Ketchup:
For best results, refrigerate after opening.

Bologna on the Sugar
Bologna on the Sugar
I see bologna on the sugar
and it's really kinda strange
Whoever planned this crazy set up
must be stupid and deranged
I see bologna on the sugar
and you know it should be cold
It's setting out
in the open
getting warm
and turning old
I see bologna on the sugar,
but I have to move along...
When someone
does this sort of thing
they're disrespectful
and they're wrong.

Imitation Toys "R" Us Display at Kroger
When I saw the imitation Toys "R" Us display at Kroger I thought it was
a bit odd. It was as if Kroger was trying to promote a defunct business.
After Toys "R" Us closed down I wasn't surprised, because the store had
lost its flavor. During the last years that Toys "R" Us was open I saw more
open space and non-toys than toys, and many of the products they had
were overpriced, or low-quality toys that didn't hold up well.
When I was a child, Toys "R" Us was the place to be. They had everything:
Beautiful Barbies, cake and fudge mix refills for my Easy-Bake Oven, and
a lot of toys. Toys were everywhere and every aisle was exciting.
If Toys "R" Us had focused on quality products and toys for children I bet
the store would still be thriving, because kids didn't change Toys "R" Us
did.

Why is Gellan Gum in Pepto-Bismol?
I've been buying Pepto-Bismol for over 20 years, so when I noticed its
pink color looked lighter than normal, I decided to read the ingredients.
The two main changes to the product was the magnesium content went
from 25mg to 3mg, and there was the addition of gellan gum. According
to draxe.com/gellan-gum/, gellan gum can alter healthy levels of intestinal
bacteria in some people causing inflammation in the digestive tract.
After reading the possible side effects of gellan gum, I was
afraid to take the new version of Pepto-Bismol, so I returned
it. Luckily, the store had a bottle of the original version, and I
bought it. I don't know how I'm going to replace it when it's
gone.
