Why is Gellan Gum in Pepto-Bismol?

I've been buying Pepto-Bismol for over 20 years, so when I noticed its
pink color looked lighter than normal, I decided to read the ingredients.
The two main changes to the product was the magnesium content went
from 25mg to 3mg, and there was the addition of gellan gum. According
to draxe.com/gellan-gum/, gellan gum can alter healthy levels of intestinal
bacteria in some people causing inflammation in the digestive tract.

After reading the possible side effects of gellan gum, I was
afraid to take the new version of Pepto-Bismol, so I returned
it. Luckily, the store had a bottle of the original version, and I
bought it. I don't know how I'm going to replace it when it's
gone.
